Network Etiquette

Can you imagine living in a world with millions of rude citizens starting flaming wars and constantly hurting others?

I see it everyday in the online world and more and more students are coming out of school not understanding what you can and can’t say when interacting with their teachers online. Can you blame them? Their peers do it all the time and no one in school probably took the time to teach them any type of network etiquette.

These network etiquette standards exist and implementing these in education would be a no brainer based on our society types today. Here are 10 rules that are linked to excerpted from the book ‘Netiquette’ by Virginia Shea. She focuses on areas that are fundamentals to us and are taught today anytime these modalities are taught.

Very simply put “Do unto others as you'd have others do unto you.”

I hope you take advantage and read these and start to think how you can implement them in your classes and allow our young learners to be better prepared to function as a citizen in our cyber world.
